We are following the best practices of the methodology, but it’s not working for us.

When it comes to the development methodology, your team’s approach depends on company culture and project type. However, many companies fail to fully understand or apply the best practices of their selected methodology, resulting in an incomplete approach and a team that ultimately declares “it’s not working” for them.

A better approach is to follow a goal-oriented methodology, in which every team member understands and works towards a common goal. Here is a simple framework:

1️⃣ Why are we doing this –> Determine the Business Need

2️⃣ What are we building –> Identify Feature/Functionality to address the business need

3️⃣ How are we building –> Define the Approach to implement the feature/functionality

4️⃣ Who is involved –> Identify Team members and their responsibilities. Also, who is accountable for the deliverables?

5️⃣ When it will be completed –> Determine the delivery timeline by phases to ensure realistic expectations and trackability are set.

This sequence allows stakeholders to be managed separately, saving the team’s time. Long meetings may not be necessary if these steps are followed precisely and there is a clear definition of responsibility and accountability.
